SONIC
JOYRIDE (bassist & keyboards) 1989-2000
Milton Mills New Hampshire
Sonic Joyride played their final
show in October 2000. For over a decade Sonic Joyride had forged
their own path and well on their way to a long career built on their
own integrity and creative identity. While their final show was
the first of a North American tour, their ride was cut short when
Chris was diagnosed with ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (Lou
Gehrig’s disease)) he became determined to create change in
the way research for ALS and related neurological disorders was
funded and conducted. In response to doctors telling him there was
no hope and nothing he could do,
Chris founded ALS Hope—The Chris Hobler/James Maritz Foundation
later that year. Chris lost his battle against ALS, February 16,
2005, but his war wages on. After the death of Chris the band disbanded
and I moved to Florida to reinvent myself.
The
Band FOOD(bassist)
2001-2004
St. Petersburg Florida
The recipe of Matt Fagen (guitar/vox/sax/elec
piano), Phil Pressler (drums/percussion), and
Rick Reese (bass/synthesizer) was tasty from the very beginning.
Their first show in April 2001 was more like a blind date with no
material, but as they improvised an entire show, they discovered
that they had an extraordinary chemistry, and it was not long before
they had established themselves as the new band to see. With loyal,
enthusiastic fans they developed a reputation for lighthearted,
booty-moving grooves and spontaneous, experimental jams which could
pack the house even on a Sunday night. The addition of a horn section
later that year - Brian Ransom (flugelhorn) and Rob Dedios (sax/various
horns) would complete the line up. After 4 years the group decided
to disband and explore individual directions, once the guitarist
and singer Matt Fagen left the group to pursue a career in education.
Freelance Sideman(bassist)
2004-2008
Florida/Nashville
I worked with various artists and
bands during this time, including corporate bands performing throughout
Florida, and casino bands throughout the south. I really enjoy the
atmosphere of a band and being part of something with an identity.
I did not care to bounce from artist to artist, which seems to be
the Nashville way. I was ready to join another band.
Mikel
Knight(bassist & band Leader)
2008-2009
Nashville, TN
2008 I became the touring bass player
and band leader for Mikel Knight, a Country Hip Hop Artist. After
one year I realized that Country Hip was not the direction I saw
myself going in and I decided to leave the project. I was looking
for something more organic than the heavily produced music.
John
Sutton Band(bassist)
2009-present
Nashville, TN
JSB music is influenced by people
with soul and groove, old and new. Al Green, Mofro, Otis, Soulive,
G Love, James Brown, Subdudes, Jack Johnson, Gov’t Mule, Big
Head Todd, for example and the list goes on. “We are true
fans of Soulful music!!!” states Sutton. “We are all
about getting the crowd fired up and involved in the show. The music
performed in our shows is all designed to get folks dancing, singing,
and having a great time.” The Nashville Underground Music
Scene said this about the John Sutton Band, “Three guys who
moved to Nashville to be a part of a thriving music scene that they
are rarely part of due to their excessive road schedule. Their performances
are fun, exciting, and full of great playing.”
Rick
Reese - Bass guitar, guitar, piano and keyboards.
These
tunes were composed just this past year 2007. All of these
are instrumental and have a soundtrack feel. Although they
have no words the all tell a story which accounts for the
theatrical presentation.
